Monthly Resident Update

Hi Reader

News from Vikki Slade MP – August 2026

As the summer comes to an end and Parliament returns, I've been reflecting on what has been a brilliant few weeks spent right here in Mid Dorset and North Poole.

This summer, I launched my campaign with MYTIME Young Carers to secure a Young Carers Champion in every school, helping to ensure that young carers receive the support they deserve. After hearing from many residents about problems with Royal Mail services, I also launched a survey to gather evidence and press for improvements. My campaign to make sure Dorset receives its fair share of NHS dentistry funding has also continued to gain momentum, a fight I will be taking forward into the autumn.

One of the greatest privileges of being your MP is the opportunity to meet so many incredible people, and August has been full of those moments. Completing my Summer Village Tour has been a particular highlight. Every community has its own character, challenges and strengths, and I am grateful to everyone who took the time to share their experiences and ideas with me.

Thank you, as always, to everyone who has been in touch, attended an event, signed a petition or stopped to say hello over the summer. Your support, insight and engagement are invaluable, and I look forward to continuing our work together as Parliament returns this September.

Young Carers Champion Campaign

I have continued to work alongside the brilliant charity MYTIME Young Carers on the campaign to establish a Young Carers Champion in every school.

Somewhere in a school near you, there is a child doing something remarkable. Before the bell rings, they may have helped a parent get out of bed, administered medication, or got younger siblings ready for the day. They may arrive at school exhausted, anxious, and carrying a weight that most of their teachers will never see.

They are a young carer. And right now, the system is failing them.

This petition for Young Carers Champions calls for support to be embedded in every school across the UK, please show your support below.

Securing NHS Dentistry Funding

The scale of dentists handing back their NHS contracts and going private is higher than ever before.

The current NHS contract leaves practices making a loss when treating more complex patients, and has driven an exodus of dentists to the private sector. The numbers just don't add up any more.

British dentistry has quietly transformed into a 2-tier service, in which access increasingly rests on what people can afford to pay and where they live.

Everyone should have access to NHS dentistry, and the system is in urgent need of reform.

You can sign my petition by clicking here to help me put pressure on both the Government and NHS Dorset to fix NHS dentistry. It will be presented in the House of Commons in the autumn.

Completed my Summer Village Tour

This Summer I hit the road for my Village Tour, over ten days and covering 21 different stops across Mid Dorset and North Poole to speak to residents on their doorsteps.

From conversations about local transport to concerns about access to community facilities, the tour provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the unique challenges facing different parts of our constituency. While every village has its own character, I was struck by the strong sense of community and the commitment so many people show to making their local area a better place to live.

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed me, shared their experiences or stopped for a chat along the way. It was brilliant to spend the summer getting to know our communities even better, and I look forward to continuing those conversations throughout the year.

Launched my Royal Mail Survey

Many residents have contacted me about ongoing problems with Royal Mail deliveries, including delays, missing post and concerns about the reliability of local services.

Hearing these stories first-hand made it clear that this was not an isolated issue, so I launched a constituency-wide survey to better understand the scale of the problem.

The response has been significant, with residents sharing their experiences and highlighting the impact that postal delays can have on everyday life.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the survey and share their experiences. The evidence gathered will help strengthen my discussions with Royal Mail and support efforts to secure the improvements that residents deserve.

Casework Wins in MDNP

Supporting constituents is the backbone of my role as your MP. Here are a few of my recent casework wins:

  • Supported a family to find temporary accommodation after a sudden eviction left them homeless
  • Intervened to stop a large dental penalty charge
  • Helped a constituent to secure a Medical Driving License after long delays from the DVLA
  • Assisted a Ukrainian refugee so that they could finally receive their pension credit payment
  • Helped local parents fight for a much-needed space in a SEND school for their child
  • Secured Early Release from the Army for a resident Veteran of 22 years who needed to be present to support his family

My resident surgeries

I run a number of surgeries each month at various locations across Mid Dorset & North Poole. To attend, you need an appointment, this can be done in person or online.

To book: please email me: vikki.slade.mp@parliament.uk or call: 01202 798718 and my team will be in touch.

As always, thank you for your continued support and if there are issues you would like me to update you on, or cover in the next issue please do let me know.

Warm wishes,
